Fall into Monday…
Happy Monday Readers!
Fall is in the air here in WNC and it is beautful! After buckets and buckets of rain the sun has finally reappeared! October is upon us and I could not be happier! Any of you have any big plans this Fall season? WNC has tons going on which most of you locals know about! If you are not local to WNC, Fall is GREAT time to visit! We’d love to have you!
Anyhow I digress. Life is keeping me busy and It is great. I have one of those personalities that I thrive on being busy and am absolutely miserable if I am not. Now that I have committed to staying in this area I am doing my best to get my foot in the door. My days are full of substitute teaching and tutoring and my night consist of work at The Corner Kitchen and attending networking events. I attended a fabulous event put on by the Asheville City Schools Foundation at Sante Wine Bar. All the wines were from Spain and it was great to meet some new people.
I met a potential “new friend” for coffee at The Dripolator on Saturday and that ended up falling a little flat. A word to the wise: handshakes as a introductory gesture in ANY situation whether it be professional or social are IMPORTANT. Not being willing to shake someone’s hand is a BIG RED FLAG. Oh well…other fish in the sea…
Have a great week!
Holy Rain and other Monday Musings
Hello Readers! Happy Monday! It is raining here in WNC! In fact, there are flood warning and I will probably need an Arc to get to work later. Please don’t read that I am not grateful for the rain but there has been a lot of it as of late. I just would like to see this:

In other news, since I couldn’t find a teaching job this year, I am substitute teaching. So far it’s going well. It’s great to have an opportunity to gain experience in my field with all types of students and school settings. It’s reminded me that teaching is the career for me. Next week, I will start as a volunteer with the Asheville City Schools Foundation as an Academic Coach; I am pretty thrilled about this and hope to gain even more experience!
On 9/3 I celebrated my birthday with some of my girls at Rezaz. I enjoyed my dinner and the company of good pals. Here are some pics:

Life is good and wonderful. I realize more and more everyday that the hardships I have endured have only made me a stronger person and I am truly grateful for all my blessings.
Best,
Bye bye Summer
Hello Readers!
I’ve been way too busy to blog but wanted to check in. I can’t believe summer is over but it is and Fall is upon us. I have participated in some great swap and am waiting for my camera to get returned so I can upload photos. I got some great stuff and hope to participate or maybe host a swap in the near future.
No news on the job front; I’m trying to feel okay about it but can’t help getting a little depressed when I see the Back to School signs everywhere. I know something will work out for me and I am counting my blessings everyday.
I enjoyed a great outing with some of my Phi Mu sisters on 8/8 and will be sharing some pictures soon.
I hope everyone is doing well!
Fantastic Friday
Or at least I am hoping so. I’m waiting to hear news on an interview I had this week and my dear friend from Camp Greystone and author of The Bury Family is in labor with Baby Girl #2. So I am hoping for loads of good news today! Tomorrow afternoon I will be heading to Charlotte to have a reunion with my Phi Mu sisters. I am so excited for a great dinner and drinks/dancing afterwards! Have a great weekend!
Ahh Monday…you came too soon.
Not really but summer is coming quickly to a close! I cannot believe it! I didn’t travel nearly as much as this summer as I planned. However, I am a Fall travel gal myself. I have plans to attend my 10 year high school reunion in October and hopefully make some other trips.
It’s an interesting time. I keep pushing to apply for jobs in another city and meanwhile everything else is telling me I should stay here. I would hate to think I am fighting for hard to create something and later finding out the Universe had other plans. But I’ve always been persistent.
In other news, LOVE is in the air but not for me. One of my coworkers got married in May and three others are engaged! My massage therapist is also engaged but getting married at the end of August. I think by the time Wedding Belles ring for me, I am going to be an expert on weddings. No wedding planner for me;) I’m perfectly happy for all the wedding/engagement news and I LOVE being a wedding guest! I just hope love comes soon for me:)
I have discovered I have a new found love for Jack Johnson and Kings of Leon. Their tunes are circulating heavily on my IPOD.
Happy Monday Readers! Here’s to a great week!
The waiting game
The waiting game is not my favorite game. Dealing with auto insurance people and filing a claim; not my favorite game either. However, I do have a Venti Skim Hazelnut Latte in my hands from Starbucks so hopefully that will make this game a little more fun. I’m also hoping to hear some good news from co-workers later today as well. I got some great news this morning that my best guy buddy has got a great lady on his arm. (So I hear, I haven’t met her but have heard wonderful things).
Life is somewhat random for me right now. I’ve been experiencing a lot of “clearing” in my life, in the mental sense. I won’t go into details but all of it has been good and hopefully a sign that I have room for some fantastic AMP life happenings in the near future. I still feel like I am in transition but slowly but surely moving forward.
What do you do during points of transition in your life?
Happy Thursday!
Customer Service?!
I generally allow incidents like the one I am about to describe to roll off my back. However, this was the 2nd time this has happened to me. As most of you know most retailers due to the recession are on sale. As a former retail worker, sale time can be crazy and I understand this can cause a lot of pressure and stress for sales associates and managers. However, I was always taught during my retail days that the customer comes first ALWAYS. SO here’s my story:
I entered a name brand store (that has several other brands underneath their company) and while I saw many items I liked, I did not see a single sales associate in the immediate area. However, I went through the racks picking out items to try on; I very soon had quite a pile in my arms. I am only 5’1 so this was becoming very cumbersome. I also was balancing my tote on one should as well. I entered the Sale section and in the middle of browsing, a young male associate asked:
“Do you have the _____Credit Card?”
Me: “I said, Thank you for asking but I am not interested.
Him: “Oh well, I am sorry to hear that. If you wanted it you could save 25% off today on your purchase.”
Me: “Thank you, but I just really don’t need another card right now.”
With my response, he glared at me and ….WALKED AWAY! Leaving me with a pile of clothes in my arms. He didn’t ask if I needed a room or anything! At this point, I wanted to leave. However, I walked over to the fitting rooms. I found the same associate along with several other associates chatting it up. (So that’s where they all were!) One finally noticed me and opened up a room for me. I was never checked on and meanwhile had the *pleasure* of listening to the mindless, unnecessary personal conversations of the associates while trying on clothes. When I went to check out, the cashier inquired if I had been helped;I said no. She didn’t really say anything and continued to ring up my purchase. I was LUCKY enough to be picked at random for an online Customer Service survey. I was honest in my survey and got a 20% coupon for one item on my next visit. The question is…will there be a next visit for me?
Happy Saturday!
It’s a beautiful Saturday here in NC! I don’t have to work but I have several things on the agenda. I’m sure momma and I will be swinging by the local Starbucks to indulge in a Venti Mocha, our favorite! I have a shift at the Next to New shop for my local Junior League and then it’s off to Gabriel Shaffer’s duel art show with his mother, Cher Shaffer at his home. I work with his lovely wife, Suzy at The Corner Kitchen. Hopefully, at some point we will end up at Vue for dinner and some vino!
Happy Saturday!
Looks like I am not alone in my confession
