Enjoy being a girl

Gap Bag circa 2004 and yes one day it will be framed and hang in a bathroom or a closet;)

I am lots of things and have lots of labels.  But first and foremost, I am a girl.  My mother dressed me very prissy with hair ribbons and the like when I was younger.  At one point, she got tired of the hair ribbons and the beyond should length hair and got it chopped off to a bob shortly before I started the 1st grade.  However, she still continued to pick out my clothes.  By junior high, I just wanted to be in jeans and tee shirts which threw her.  Why? Because my mother is a classy lady and always thought females regardless of age should dress for any occasion which did not include jeans and tees.

I agree with her but I do love my jeans and tees.  Just as much as I love my leopard print slingback shoes.  That’s the beauty of being a grl; as long as you love who you are and how you express yourself, you’re golden, you’re a goddess.

As I sit here waiting for my raw honey + rice flour face mask to set, I celebrate being a girl.  A girl who can hang out with 3 year olds all day in the uniform of khakis and a white tee, appear at a restaurant/event/bar in a cute outfit or hang at home in her jeans, barefoot and a tee.

Enjoy being a girl and gentleman who read this blog, enjoy your girls!

Happy Monday!

Friday Favorites: From the mouths of babes

In honor of my new gig as a preschool teacher, I give you my top 3 sayings of the week: *Names have been changed.

1.  Me:  Bill, listen to Tom’s words.  Bill:  I don’t wanna listen to Tom’s words.

2.  Me:  Emily, where are you going?  Emily:  To my grandma’s house.  Me:  Where’s that?  Emily:  The sky.

3.  After realizing one of my kids had been in the bathroom for nearly 15 minutes.  Me:  Are you okay in there?  Dwight:  Yea, I had to poo.

Happy Friday!

A leap of faith

A few weeks ago I took a leap and scaled back at my part time job and here I sit nearly a month in at my new job.  It’s a solid net but there are a few loops that need to be restrung.  I have a lot to learn and I always struggle to ask for help.  However, I know this a good thing, a good step.  I hope that it continues to be challenges because without challenges, we will never be strong enough to overcome things.

Fall for Saturday

Ever since I took my new job, I have fallen in love with Saturdays all over again! I am so excited about weekends now, it is not even funny! I may be more overzealous about it than the average person. I spent this morning n bed until about 8:30 or so. Maybe that isn’t “sleeping in” for some of you but when you wake up at 6:30am every weekday morning, that extra two hours is heaven. Soon after the dogs were walked, mom and I headed to our local bakery and ended up running into an old friend who introduced us to a new friends. And she’s about my age!!!

Isn’t that funny that even as adults we get excited just like when were were children to meet friends who are in our age bracket?!

Even more so, she’ll lives in our ‘hood with her parents. Whoop someone to relate too!

At any rate, it seems like we will be great friends.

Well I’m off to get my haircut and to Asheville’s 2010 BlogAid.

Have a happy and beautiful weekend!

Monday Musings: Weak

I’ve been battling Strep Throat since well technically Wednesday but didn’t get myself to Urgent Care until Saturday AM.  Funny thing is that I diagnosed myself Friday but was still in denial.  When I awoke again Saturday morning feeling someone had lite a bonfire in my throat, I had no choice but to go.  The nurse seemed to believe I had strep despite no high fever and not a whole lot of tenderness around my throat and lymph nodes.  However, doc assured me it was just a common cold but agreed to look at the culture.  Before he could even leave the room, the nurse yelled positive.  I’ve been on antibiotics since that moment and have been bed ridden.  Called in again to work today and hope to be somewhat functioning tomorrow.

The lesson in all this, is that my immune system is now weak in the presence of my little ones.  You better believe this is going to turn me into a latex glove wearing, washing hands maven, Vitamin C and hand sanitizer junkie.  I thought I was pretty good before but my precious students have proven me wrong.

But all in all, I am enjoying the new job and the fact that I get to work with one of my really good friends.  Also, Junior League starts up again and our League has current AJLI President, Delly Beekman speaking at the meeting tomorrow.  Our BOD will be eating dinner with her tonight, unfortunately I have to skip due to my illness.

For all of you out there, how do you keep your immune system in tip top shape?

Happy Monday!

Monday Musings: 3.0

I started my new job last Wednesday…a mere 24 hours later after my last shift at my old one.  You know how most people give themselves some time in between a new job and and old job?!  Not me.  Nope just push through.  I assured myself I would be fine.  And I was. Fast forward to Friday, September 3rd.  My 30th birthday.  With my free drink coupon from Starbucks in hand, I stopped on the way to pick up a Venti (hey, it’s was my birthday, calories do not count) Toffee Mocha.  Toffee Mocha is my new favorite drink.  Which is good because I don’t care for Pumpkin Spice Lattes.

WHAT?!

I know, SHOCKER.  I’m sorry, the only time I like pumpkin is in pie form.  So thankfully since I have to wait to enjoy my Peppermint Mocha in the red cup until after Thanksgiving, Starbucks has appeased me with the Toffee Mocha.  And yes, I know I can get the Peppermint Mocha year round all you Starbucks  know it alls BUT I cannot get it in the red cup okay?!  Thanks

So I was wide awake, so excited about turning 30, had a beautiful ride up to work.  It was going to be an awesome day…

And it was…and after I picked up our party trays at Earthfare and my cupcakes from Mom and Son Bistro…I headed home.

The PM commute wasn’t nearly as beautiful since I was sharing the road with the crazies trying to get out of town for the weekend…

Came home, nearly slept through dinner and two glasses of champagne and was in bed by 10…

Spent Saturday doing school work and prepping for birthday celebration on Sunday.  My dad came into town and we went to a Mexican place for dinner.  Complete with fried ice cream and a serenade.

Family gathered back at home so I could open my presents from my parents.  My darling mother graciously replaced a lost diamond stud earring.  The original pair was given to me 6 years ago when I graduated from college and I recently lost one.

And my daddy gave me…

The Tiffany “bean” necklace.  My nickname growing up was Adrienne Bean so he thought this was fitting.  Alos, since the bean symbolizes the origin of all things and I have some new things going on in my life, the timing couldn’t of been more perfect.

My older brother got me this:

If you love guacamole as much as I do, you need a mortar and pestle

The party on Sunday was awesome and I am so lucky to have wonderful friends and family.

The remaining gifts were:

Handmade candle holders from my friend Maloree:

A bookmark from my friend Heather by Moxie Jewelry Designs

Plenty of vino!

A gift certificate to Sensibilities Day Spa from Chrissie and Chris

Open, Andre Agassi’s Autobiography…

Two dozen roses from family friend, Rick.

And plenty of love, laughter and well wishes!

I love being 30 so far, can’t wait to see what is in store!
